The team have largely been re-adjusting to the production mindset over the course of this week, working on the tasks that we took on the first day. I have been finishing up the storyboard, as usual, with only one shot left before we put a temporary lock on it. It's a small gag we added in to when the main character enters the bathroom: after being bonked on the head one more time, he spins around in an attempt to punch the alien, only for him to hit his hand against the metal bathroom door as it closes. The rest of the team seemed to love it (likely because of the Peter Griffin moaning sound effect that Logan attached to it while presenting), but I am personally torn. It's a funny gag, but I don't think it meshes super well with the tone of the scene; the man is in a state of uneasiness rather than anger at this stage, being in an unfamiliar environment and having pulled off a risky diversion in order to avoid getting an alien probing. Regardless, I'm outvoted, so I'll need to find a way to fit it in.
I'm honestly relieved that we're locking the storyboard after this shot, because members of the team (Logan in particular) keep throwing out small suggestions for gags. Most of them aren't serious, but it's born from a mindset that we should be far past at this point. I think a lot of these suggestions have delved into off-the-cuff improvisations without a lot of regard for how it meshes with the plot overall. This isn't to discredit Logan or the rest of the team, and it's certainly not to inspire action. It's a small anxiety I've developed with how these gags are brought up. In the meantime, I'll be doing what I've always been doing - adjusting the storyboard. And hopefully, it's the last week.
