The 4th Production Pass, after a week of delay, has come and gone, and with it, some new developments. We showed off some of our new material to the class with many positive reception, including new character base meshes, models, and yet another updated storyboard with a new intro. As per usual, the latter was my handiwork, and there weren't too many changes to be made. So, after adding in sound effects and music over the last two weeks, it will be locked in as our story template. And it only took the whole semester!
So, with the storyboard nearing completion, I'll be getting involved in some of the art direction alongside the rest of the team. Our biggest note was to incorporate more cohesion in our designs, giving the short a more distinct and memorable style. This problem manifested as a result of poor translation between materials and a lack of general direction for the art to drive the designs.
To fix this problem, the team will be individually submitting design concepts for environments, setting a basic standard for set and prop design. We're starting out with the hallway the alien waits in while the man is in the bathroom - a relatively unimportant set, but with a large potential for design. I will be taking part in this as well over the weekend, so I'll be able to provide an update next week.
