This week has been entirely focused on shot blocking for the whole team. During our meeting on Wednesday, we split up all of the shots that took place within the bathroom between each member so that we could hard focus on getting the shots done today and over the weekend. With only rough assets for the main character and the items inside the bathroom, the shots look rough at the moment, but we are mainly focused on composition, basic movement, and camera-work. Pictured above is shot D-030, one of the compositions I worked on that features some extreme use of focal length. Aside from the heavy blurring that we will be redoing in Nuke, I'm very proud of how it turned out using the stretching and volume settings of the Advanced Skeleton rig. This is one of the shots that could have easily turned out for the worse, but so far it looks great!
Not all of the shots could be finished today, including a few of mine, but I am still confident that our team will be able to present some quality cinema at the final presentation in May, and hopefully the upcoming faculty presentation too. We received a lot of criticism last production pass that our shots aren't put in 3D at this point in the semester, but I think it's important to note all the work we did in pre-production. Out of all four groups, I believe that BSG has the best foundation to work from because of the word done with the story, so while other groups may change things overtime and alter their production cycle as a result, most of our potential pitfalls were knocked out in the early phase. For this reason, I think our team will be doing the best in the long run.
